CTL wins ACEC/CO Engineering Excellence Award
At a luncheon on Nov. 7, CTL | Thompson was selected as one of six winners of the 2010 Engineering Excellence Level Awards, considered the industry’s most prestigious award, from its premiere business association, the American Council of Engineering Companies of Colorado (ACEC/CO).
The project awarded the top honor was the Mount Carmel Health, Wellness and Community Center, a community center that provides Trinidad, Colo. residents with essential health and wellness services and cultural and social opportunities. CTL’s work laid the foundation, literally, for a center that will provide much needed heath care for the region, which is classified as medically underserved.
CTL developed geotechnical criteria for the construction of foundation system that would allow the historic church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, to be redeveloped into the health center. The church, first built in 1907 by Jesuit priests and the famed architects, Isaac and William Rapp, was substantially damaged by a terrible blizzard in 2006. The Colorado Historical Society placed the church building on the state Register of Historic Properties in August 2008.
